Q: A questioner wanted to know if she could get pregnant when the condom broke if she is on birth control. She is on Seasonale so does not have regular periods.
A: If you take your pills every day and never miss, it would be highly unlikely that you would be pregnant even if the condom breaks. However, there is still that 1% chance. If you are concerned, the best thing to do is come on in and take one of our free pregnancy tests. Then you will know what`s going on. You can call for an appointment -483-0092- or come on in during office hours- 10-4:30, Monday through Friday.

Q: I'm about 4 days late. I have taken two First Response pregnancy test and both were negative. I thought earlier this month that I might be pregnant because of some symptoms that I had/have, but we (me and my boyfriend) are exteremly safe. However, when I was only one day late, a condom did brake and sperm was present. Is it possible that I am pregnant? And being that I'm only 17 is it possible to visit Choices Resource Center without a parent just yet? Thanks for all of your help!
A: It is possible that you are pregnant, and the only way to know for sure is to come in for a test. You do not have to have a parent with you and they will not be notified. No one will know that you have been here- we are completely confidential agency. Please call us at 483-0099 for an appointment or come on in between 10 and 4 Monday through Thursday!

Q: I slept with a guy on the first night i met him He is 12 years older then me, he said he cant have kids so he didnt need to wear a condom and if he didnt cum in me the i wouldnt get pregant.how soon can you tell and how do u look for stds, are there any signs. He was my first and now i am afraid i mad a poor decision
A: There is no way to know for sure if this guy really cannot have kids. Many people say this but have no medical tests that have shown it. I would suggest you take a pregnancy test. Most pregnancy tests will show a positive result after a missed period. The tests in our office usually show around 12 days after intercourse. You can come in to our office and get a free pregnancy test. We are open Mon.-Thurs. 10-4:30. As for the STDs, some people have symptoms but the majority of people do not even know they have an STD. If you could come in, we could talk about all the different STDS and possible symptoms. I would strongly suggest you have STD testing done. Certain STDs, such as chlamydia, can cause permanent damage if not treated quickly. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Everything is confidential and no one has to know you even came in. We look forward to meeting with you!

Q: Do you have to draw blood for your pregnancy tests? Do you get the results the same day?
A: Hello Claire! We test for pregnancy using a few drops of urine that will detect a component called HCG if you are pregnant. One of our counselors will help you administer the test yourself and you`ll have the results in just a few minutes. When you come to our office, we`ll gather some basic information and then help you do the test. We have lots of information and resources to help you as well. Call 483-0099 for an appointment or stop by between 10 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday! (We sign our last appointment in at 3:45)

Q: My friend says you can't get pregnant the first time. Is that true? I need to know soon.....
A: No, it`s not true, and yes, you CAN get pregnant the first time and any time you have sex. Even using birth control will not protect you 100 %. We`d love to talk to you in more detail if you want to come into the office or call our helpline- 865-483-0099.

Q: Do you do STD testing, and if so, do i need to make an appointment, and how long does it take to get the results?
A: Right now we are not able to offer STD testing but we are in the process of adding it to our services. We hope to be able to start testing within a few months. For now, you might check with Hope Resource Center in Knoxville. Check them out at www.hoperc.org or at 865-525-4673. You can also contact your local health department or your own doctor. Q: My daughter has been writing notes to her friends saying she has done sexual acts. I think she is just trying to impress the wrong crowd, but how can I be sure?
A: You can`t be sure unless your daughter is honest with you. Why not find a time to get away with her for an afternoon to have a heart to heart talk about what you`ve found out? Be prepared for her reaction to just how you know about the notes! Try to listen calmly without judgement and then help her to come to some decisions about what she`s been doing - or says she`s been doing. She`s got some choices to make, and it`s ok to gently guide, but don`t lecture or preach! You need to tell her the truth about the consequences she could be facing. And always make sure she knows you love her completely, no matter what!
